University College Birmingham Strive To Achieve Eco-Campus Status With The Help Of B&M Waste Services

B&M Waste Services have partnered up with the prestigious University College Birmingham to help with their quest to segregate and recycle as much waste as possible.

University College Birmingham is a campus based in the centre of the UK’s largest regional city, and was awarded full university status back in 2012. The University now boasts 7,500 students studying a vast range of different courses, and last year they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their official opening as Birmingham College of Food and Domestic Arts, which was carried out by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Having previously experienced a lack of full understanding and communication with regards to how their waste was being handled, the midlands-based campus have been seeking a solution which provides more sustainability and structure. Nick Reader, Facilities and Operations Manager at UCB, expressed his delight with the partnership and outlined the university’s ongoing goal of boosting sustainability and environmental policy.

Nick said; “The partnership we’re going to have with B&M moving forwards is all the things we’ve been looking for, for quite a while. We are currently trying to attain eco-campus status, and by working with B&M we will achieve this in a very short time I’m sure”.

The students of University College Birmingham have been very forthcoming in expressing their desire to segregate and recycle, and have been doing so in-house at their student accommodation sites en masse, so the commitment to becoming more environmentally-conscious in joining forces with B&M Waste Services is a significant extension of the work that was already taking place in and around the campus by its undergraduates.

Area Sales Manager at B&M Waste in Birmingham, Sean Sudworth, discussed his thoughts on the upcoming partnership with UCB; “We are very excited to be working alongside a big prestigious name like UCB. It’s a great project to be involved in as it’s essentially a blank canvas to work with to improve the waste management within the university, where we will be able to reduce recycling as well as lowering the costs incurred by the university”.
