Astrum Commercial Cleaning Services, who provide a full range of cleaning, facilities and security services across the East and West Midlands, have teamed up with B&M Waste Services to achieve reliable and cost effective waste and recycling success at a number of their client’s sites in Birmingham.
Astrum wanted to work with a waste management partner that focused on environmental sustainability, and Carbon Neutral B&M were more than happy to help. Before putting forward a strategy, the family-run waste company provided an in depth waste audit at all of the sites to ensure the solution was practical for each location.
The 21 sites that B&M were asked to provide waste services at include eight on the Birmingham Business Park as well as Astrum’s head office at Diddington Farm.
It was determined that the most efficient solution to achieve recycling success was to segregate two waste streams – general waste and mixed recycling. New bins were provided at each location, with approximately 40 in total, and as the Business Park is the busiest site they receive daily collections Monday to Friday.
Astrum and its clients now benefit from a Carbon Neutral waste management service with zero waste sent to landfill.
Marianne Barber, Customer Services Manager at Astrum, said “Sustainable waste management has become increasingly important to our business and we are delighted to have been able to bring these environmental benefits to our customers. The service provided by B&M has been reliable and any additional requests have also been dealt with quickly and efficiently.”
Since the partnership began in September 2017, Astrum has saved over 10,000kg of carbon emissions through landfill diversion, the equivalent of nine trees and over 3,000 car miles.
Doug Bozeman, Commercial Sales Manager at B&M, said “Once we opened our depot in Birmingham last year, Astrum were keen to work together and look at ways in which they could improve their environmental performance. And I’m happy to say that the partnership became an instant success.”
