Carbon Neutral waste management company, B&M Waste Services continue to support Parrs Wood High School in East Didsbury in Manchester, in developing their commitment to helping the local community.

As a result of increased recycling segregation implemented in partnership with B&M Waste Services, Parrs Wood High received a rebate for metal and paper recyclable materials from B&M Waste.

Given B&M’s commitment to corporate social responsibility which aligns with the school’s community agenda, the decision was made to donate money to the Manchester Victims Fund, which helps victims following the recent events of the Manchester Bombing. Part of this money has also been used to provide a bench at the school to allow students to have a meeting place take some time out during their studies, and for parents to rest whilst waiting for their children to come out of school.

The cheque presentation which totalled £966.31 has been split to cover £250.00 for the bench and the remainder has gone to the Manchester Victims Fund. Mr McElwee, Headteacher, has worked closely with his team by leading in the participation of so many different ways to support such a worthwhile cause.  The aftermath of this event had such major impact on the students and staff.  This donation will be a small gift to those who were adversely affected.

Graham Curtis, Director at B&M Waste Services said “It’s great to see the recycling that now goes on across the school, and even greater to work with such a like-minded organisation in terms of the environment and community. We jointly agreed the best option for this rebate was to double up in support of both the victims of the Manchester bombing, and the 6th form students at the school, who all work very hard and will benefit from this money”

Ian McKenzie, Parrs Wood High’s Account Manager from B&M Waste said “We have a great working relationship with Parrs Wood high and Tony Way, Facilities Manager at the school in particular. They’re committed to doing their bit for the environment and we have helped with this. They’ve gone one step further in making this donation which I greatly applaud.”

Tony Way, Facilities Manager at Parrs Wood High said “Great strides have been made to educate our students and staff about recycling and waste management as a whole. The driver for that has been the partnership which has grown successfully between the school over five years together, where key personnel from the school’s’ staff and students have led the way in making Parrs Wood High School a much safer and cleaner place to educate around 2000 students and 300 staff.

The next step in this long journey is to embrace the same philosophy as the school becomes part of Greater Manchester Learning Trust.
