*Calculate Your ShreddingB&M Waste Services is a Carbon-Neutral company that is always exploring new ways to preserve the earth’s resources for future generations. One of the ways we are reducing carbon emissions from the waste we collect is our new RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) facility at our site in Trafford Park, Manchester.
The key objective is to harness energy from waste and enhance our commitment to achieving ‘Zero landfill’. After separating the waste, and removing all recyclables such as cardboard, wood and metals any non-recyclable residual waste is compacted into bales and transported to a Combined Heat and Power Facility. Here, energy is harvested from the residual waste to produce electricity and also steam which produces thermal heating via the district heating system.
B&M’s estimated overall carbon saving from using the RDF facility is 15,105 CO2eT; assuming the average UK household emits 4.5 CO2eT per year (www.energysavingtrust.org.uk). This means our saving is equivalent to powering 3,350 homes. This includes drastically reducing our emissions from sending waste to landfill and the mileage saved by our trucks.
Residual waste is effectively used as a replacement for fossil fuels such as coal or gas, giving it additional environmental benefits.
The RDF production process is implemented through B&M’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. B&M have operated as a Carbon Neutral company since 2010 when it achieved the Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2060 and have already offset over 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
B&M is helping customers to achieve higher recycling levels than ever before which is not only good for the environment, it also has a positive impact on the businesses we service.
We produce environmental reports which show customers their true impact on the environment and RDF means the levels of recycling are much higher than ever before. This allows our customers to prove their own green credentials for legislative, regulatory and acquisition and retention of their own customers. And all of this is at a highly competitive rate.
With all that is going on in the world at the moment, waste management continues to be an essential utility and we are doing all that we can to continue to operate as normal.
We can remotely organise audits, paperwork and health and safety documentation without the need for physical contact so that a safe and compliant service can commence imminently.
