B&M Waste Services has pledged its support for Little Hearts Matter – the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting and empowering anyone affected by the diagnosis of a single ventricle heart condition – or half a working heart.
Supporting families throughout their journey – from initial diagnosis through to treatment and life at home – is the core focus of the charity by offering crucial information and support. They’re equally committed to raising awareness of the condition in children and the challenges faced by their families.
The mission of the charity is especially meaningful to B&M colleague Stephen, whose 2 year old son, Harry, was diagnosed before birth with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, meaning he has only half a working heart. Harry had open heart surgery at just 2 days old, a second surgery at 4 months and will require another before the age of 5.
Stephen explained, “Little Hearts Matter gave us hope during our darkest days. They are the backbone, voice and driving force for families who undertake this difficult journey into the relatively unknown.” It was Stephen who consequently highlighted Little Hearts Matter to charity-oriented B&M Waste Services and the company was keen to support.
We have pledged sponsorship of the Little Hearts Matter Newsletter and phone line, both of which play a vital role in keeping in touch with the families and supporting them.
How have we helped?
In 2019, Team Little Hearts Matter were victorious when B&M staff represented them in the annual B&M Charity Truck Pull. The team pulled a 14.7 tonne B&M waste truck 20 metres in just 18.85 seconds, winning an extra £1000 donation for the charity.
Our Birmingham Sales Team took part in the Great North Run in aid of Little Hearts Matter, raising over £1000!
