In the heart of Didsbury in Greater Manchester, alongside the banks of the River Mersey, you’ll find the Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club.
The hotel has newly revamped rooms, a 24 metre pool, 24-hour gym, onsite restaurant and cookery school, meaning a constant flow of guests.

As an extremely busy hotel and leisure club, producing large volumes of waste, Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club needed an environmentally sustainable waste management plan.
Previously using just one large FEL bin, no streams of waste were being recycled to the fullest potential. The hotel and leisure club recognised that they could be further separating their waste and enlisted the help of B&M Waste Services to do so.

B&M Waste’s Area Sales Manager, Craig Holmes, visited the site to conduct a free waste audit. B&M’s free audits offer potential customers ways to see how they can reduce their waste output and save money.
Craig identified ways that the hotel and leisure club could create a more sustainable waste management strategy going forward, saving them money in the process.
As a result of the free waste audit, bins to segregate general waste, glass, card and food waste were all put into place on the site. B&M’s environmental reports will provide the company with clear and comparable data. Through these reports, the company will be able to view their waste output and see areas for future change and waste minimisation.

As a result of the partnership with B&M Waste, Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club have achieved 100% landfill diversion; a 100% increase from their previous waste provider. All glass is also 100% recycled, due to segregating the waste streams.

Speaking about the partnership, Chris Hayes, Facilities Director of Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club, said “We are currently embarking on a programme to become a green property, the support B&M Waste have give us on this will ensure none of our waste is going to landfill which is really important to us. The support from Craig and the team at B&M has been second to none, they managed the changeover from our old provider to B&M Waste without any problems and delivered the bins on time so there was no disruption to services. I am looking forward to our continued partnership with B&M Waste for years to come.”
Craig Holmes, Area Sales Manager at B&M, commented: “Working with Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club has been a great success to date. Removing the large FEL bin that all waste was previously being put into, instead creating 4 waste streams, has been extremely effective. The hotel and leisure club now have peace of mind that their waste is being disposed of in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way and I look forward to working with the team further in the future.”
