The commercial property was looking to procure a waste subcontractor with sustainability in mind. Marcello Della Croce, Director at MK2 said; “We want to offer excellent property management services, and when we commenced working on Cumberland House, Broad Street (which houses Hampton by Hilton Hotel, Bierkeller, Food Republic and Velvet Rooms), there were four different waste contracts and an issue with cleanliness and tidiness of the loading bay area where the waste was being stored. We wanted someone with green credentials, great service, and a competitive price.”
The Solution
Marcello said; “Following the administrative task of cancelling four contracts, mobilisation with B&M Waste Services was smooth and the service has been great since things got up and running. B&M Waste assisted us with implementing a single contract which has seen the introduction of more food and glass recycling bins over a 6 day collection period, which are now recycled as opposed to being placed in the general waste containers.”
Paul Gennoe, Facilities Manager at MK2 said “Sean from B&M Waste and I conducted some on-site training with each tenant over a two to three month period. This included the Hotel’s Housekeeping team and representatives from all other tenants. We wanted to make all of them aware of the new waste strategy, the benefits of it and gain their buy-in. We focused on which waste types go in which containers. Clear signage was also produced as a reminder ongoing as to which waste is to be placed where. Having one bill, one account manager and one port of call for any issues with Sean has been a bonus.”
B&M Waste produce Envionmental Reports for all customers which demonstrate the levels of recycling for each waste stream, and the Carbon saved in terms of trees and car miles from diverting all their waste from landfill. MK2 and their clients benefit from the fact that we use a Carbon Neutral waste company. When tendering for new work MK2 utilise the environmental reports when demonstrating waste management strategies, and this gives them an advantage against other FM companies who don’t use a Carbon Neutral waste company which focuses on recycling.
With all that is going on in the world at the moment, waste management continues to be an essential utility and we are doing all that we can to continue to operate as normal.
