3000 patients of East Sussex NHS Trust have been written to after a memory stick containing personal information that was not password protected was lost. The BBC reported that it was later found by a member of the public, and Chief Executive of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Darren Grayson, described the incident as “isolated” and emphasized that patient confidentiality and data protection is paramount, and breaches of this are taken “extremely seriously”.
Paul Curtis, Director at B&M Secure Shredding said “These are the type of incidents we work closely with all our customers, particularly those in the healthcare sector, to avoid. We offer both regular and one-off shredding and media destruction services which are all BSIA approved. This is the safest way to ensure the risk of these incidents is minimised”
