B&M urge businesses to ensure ESOS registration by 5th December deadline

Categories: B&M News

As a national total waste management and recycling service provider, B&M Waste Services are today urging their larger customers to ensure they submit their notification of compliance to the Government’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) by the deadline on 5 December.neil curtis

ESOS applies to large UK undertakings and their corporate groups. It mainly affects businesses but can also apply to not-for-profit bodies and any other non public sector undertakings that are large enough to meet the qualification criteria.

UK companies who employ over 250 people or have an annual turnover in excess of over 50 million Euro (£38,937,777) and an annual balance sheet total in excess of 43 million Euro (£33,486,489), or an overseas company with a UK registered establishment which has 250 or more UK employees (paying income tax in the UK), are classed as large undertaking and will need to take part in the ESOS process.

Neil Curtis, Managing Director of B&M Waste Services said “Large corporates and organisations are required by law under the ESOS regulation to undertake mandatory energy assessments and energy savings audits every 4 years, and so will be operating a sophisticated recycling policy as a result. Companies who are ISO 50001 accredited need to inform the Environment Agency that they are already compliant with ESOS. Those who aren’t need to conduct an ESOS assessment to determine what they need to do to become compliant with the regulation.

“Many of our customers fit this bill and we have been working very closely with them to ensure the sustainability and recycling element of their ESOS audit will be tip top and worry free. We urge any businesses not already considering rigorous auditing and improvement of their waste management as part of their ESOS assessment, to contact their waste service provider or ourselves to ensure compliance.”
