B&M launch new Haz Box solution for offices

Categories: B&M News

haz waste boxThis month sees the launch of B&M Waste Services brand new Haz Box. This provides a solution to all businesses nationwide who have any small hazardous waste on a regular basis, such as batteries, cleaning products, printer toners, aerosols, paint, oils, glue and bulbs. Under the Hazardous Waste Regulations, it stipulates that all companies producing hazardous waste must separate this from non-hazardous waste, suitably store it and then dispose of it with a licensed waste carrier. This means that any hazardous waste MUST NOT be placed in general waste containers, but MUST be kept separate.

The Environment Agency and the courts take all breaches very seriously and recently fined a food processing company in Wiltshire £1,500 for placing fluorescent tubes in a general waste skip.

Especially suited to the office environment, the B&M Haz Box provides assurance of environmental compliance. B&M organise all paper work, removing the worry from customers should the EA do a spot check, which they beginning to do more and more.

Neil Curtis, Managing Director at B&M said “We’ve already found this simple and convenient solution for customers with small hazardous waste items has had an immense uptake. It takes the hassle of compliance away, and we provide a regular collection service for the container, similar to our core business, where items are treated and then recycled wherever possible.”

Terry Milner, Sales Director at B&M said “If employees are presented with an easy opportunity to do the right thing, they usually take it. Our new service provides this. The rate at which this new service is selling means we are definitely providing a much needed solution to a problem, particularly for those working in offices where there tend to be mainly small hazardous waste items. We can also provide solutions for larger items by contacting our hazardous waste team”

Commonly used items that require segregation and can go in the B&M Haz Box are:

  • Batteries
  • Aerosols
  • Cleaning materials
  • Paint containers
  • Toner cartridges
  • Unbroken bulbs
  • Oils
  • Glues
  • Sealants
