Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment WEEE


The directive was transposed into UK law as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2006 and came into force on the 5th January 2007. Examples of WEEE regulated products include printers, telephones, laptops, calculators, facsimile, electric fans and heaters. Some types of electrical equipment not only fall under the WEEE Directive,	but are also classified as hazardous waste, for example:- Equipment containing Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT’s) e.g. monitors, tv’s. refrigerated units that contain the gases HCFC and HFC or other CFC’s e.g. fridges, freezers, air conditioning units and water coolers. other electronic equipment containing accumulators, mercury switches, batteries and other activated glass.
