B&M Waste Services are improving their recycling performance!
B&M Waste Services have always strived to recycle as much of the waste that they collect as possible. We have invested heavily in our plant in Bromborough on the Wirral, creating a bespoke Material Recycling Facility on site, allowing us to recover a wide variety of recyclables such as metals, plastics, paper and glass. However, even with B&M’s dedication to recycling, there is still a residual waste that cannot be reclaimed and which unfortunately normally ends up in landfill! But not necessary anymore.

We are pleased to announce that in future selected residual waste unsuitable for unconventional recycling will be passed on to the Orchid facility. In this instance, for certain customers and waste streams, recycling and recovery rate of up to 90 or 95% could be achieved depending on the type of waste stream.

This exciting new venture will see B&M working in partnership with Orchid Environmental, based in Knowsley near Liverpool. Orchid have invested £13million in a brand new, state of the art plant which can divert up to 50,000 tonnes of Merseyside’s commercial and industrial waste away from landfill each year. The plant not only recovers valuable recyclables, it also produces a unique range of low carbon fuels for use in renewable electricity generation and combined heat and power plants that support key government climate change targets.

Neil Curtis Director of B & M is delighted with the new arrangement. “The partnership with Orchid brings B&M Waste Services’ ultimate goal – 100% recycling with no land fill – a huge step closer,” he explained. “Our clients are committed to reducing their impact on the environment, and we are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to help them. The new system means that almost all of the waste we collect from our customers is recycled in one form or another, and when you compare that to a government target of just 40% for domestic waste, it’s an outstanding achievement.”
