The European Landfill Directive has been introduced in various stages since 2002.
From the 30th October 2007, a new requirement under the landfill directive states that all waste disposed of in landfill must be 'pre-treated'. Waste will have been considered to be pre-treated if:-
(i)It has undergone a physical, thermal or biological process including sorting that
(ii) also changes the characteristics of the waste
and
(iii) must do so in order to reduce its volume, or reduce its hazardous nature or facilitate its handling or enhance its recovery
This means that for general waste, a proportion of each waste stream must be separated out for recycling or go via a MRF (Materials Recovery Facility).
In anticipation of this legislation and B&M's commitment to recycling our MRF site in Bromborough has been expanded (see news).
If you would like to discuss how this or any other legislation could affect your business please do not hesitate to contact us
Please note that B&M Waste Services operate under all current legislation including the aforementioned.
