The team is especially pleased with the Green Business Award, as environmental issues are such an integral part of the way in which the company operates. B&M have been working towards a goal of zero waste to landfill for several years, and recent developments have brought that target within even closer reach. A new partnership, with a Liverpool based Energy from Waste Company, means that B&M now potentially recycle up to 95% of the waste they collect from an increasing proportion of local businesses – a statistic which clearly impressed the judges.
The Green Business Award, sponsored by Liverpool Hope University, recognises companies that apply environmental policies in the workplace, take action to reduce their carbon footprint and make a positive contribution to the environment. B&M were chosen for their forward thinking approach and their huge commitment to meeting challenging environmental demands.
"This award will inspire the whole team towards achieving our goal of 100% recycling," commented Vicki Hulse Marketing Manager. "In addition to this, we were runner up in the Medium Business of the Year category too, proving that companies can be both commercially successful and environmentally sustainable at the same time. B&M have set a new benchmark in efficient, effective and environmentally responsible working practices." |
